Four girls dance for their dreams in Japan's latest pop confection Back Dancers! Directed by Nagayama Kozo, the man behind the classic Japanese dramas Long Vacation and Tokyo Love Story, Back Dancers! takes the audience into the street dancing and pop music scenes to follow four young dancers' struggles for stardom. The filmmakers were very serious about the dancing in the film, enlisting as dance choreographers Da Pump's Ken, dancer Teruya, and Matsuzawa Izumi, who has choreographed for Amuro Namie and TRF. The four leads, hiro, Hirayama Aya (Fighter in the Wind), J-pop singer Sonim, and Saeko, went through intense training to deliver dynamic performances on-screen. In addition to star hiro, a former member of disbanded girl group SPEED, dance group Paradise Go!! Go!! and Hasebe Yu of Dream also appear in the film, bringing greater realism to the film's dance pop setting.
Yoshika (hiro), Miu (Hirayama Aya), Aiko (Saeko), and Tomoe (Sonim) are pop singer Juri's backup dancers, four friends with vastly different personalities and a common passion for dancing. When Juri suddenly retires, the four girls are left in limbo. Their agency arranges for them to continue performing as the group Back Dancers under the care of rookie manager (Tanaka Kei). As the girls struggle to make a name for themselves, newcomer group Kisaragi Mayu with Super Tigers gains momentum. The agency decides to support the new group and disband Back Dancers...
