What's a "BUSU"? The most respected Japanese dictionary, the Kojien defines "BUSU" as "a woman of unattractive appearance". This word is uttered all too often today in Japan, but if you're a non-Japanese planning a visit, I wouldn't recommend trying this word for yourself in Japan.
n this drama, SMAP member Inagaki Gorou plays a guy named Osamu who works at a TV studio planning variety shows. He has been running short of ideas lately, but one of the younger guys at the office comes up with the idea of doing a comedy show about unattractive women. The idea doesn't come to fruition, but through it Osamu happens to meet Miyuki (Murakami Tomoko).
Miyuki is a slightly overweight, chubby-faced woman who doesn't exactly fit into the traditional mold of attractive. She aspires to be an actress, but currently works at a ramen shop. She lives with two women attractive enough to be models played by MEGUMI and Takizawa Saori. Ignored for her looks since childhood, she still refuses to think of herself as unattractive and lives her life accordingly. Her agent advises her to become a comedian since less attractive women are often successful as comedians, but Miyuki refuses. She doesn't want to be laughed at, she wants to be a serious actress.....
