Story line:

A story of Hachiro Sato, poet in the Showa period who is known for his lyric poems and songs for children. Despite the delicate and sensitive style of his works, he and his family spent a life full of ups and downs. Based on a novel by his half-sister Aiko Sato, the drama describes the thrilling life of the poet who played an important role in the popular culture of the Showa era by focusing on his love and hate relationship with his family.

時值大正14年2月,留漣於淺草咖啡店的八郎(唐澤壽明飾)收到了一封電報:住在仙台老家的母親,春(鳥丸節子飾)過世了。10年前,一心想當女演員的席娜(原田美枝子飾),拜訪了八郎的父親--紅綠(原田芳雄飾)後,八郎家的命運就完全變了樣。儘管當時的另一位詩人--福士(松方弘樹飾)試著幫忙挽回紅綠與春的婚姻,但終究他們還是離了婚,春將三個小孩一併帶回娘家,獨立扶養...。八郎是個貧苦的詩人,工作常常餵不飽一家四口的生活。與老婆久美子(松本明子飾)及兩個女兒的生活費,幾乎全仰賴紅綠的資助,儘管如此,八郎貪玩的本性卻始終改不掉...。與電視演員歌川璃子(鶴田真由飾)邂逅那天起,他的一生竟然步上紅綠的後塵,讓人不禁感嘆是命運捉弄人還是因果輪迴呢?
