2005 Release
New filmmaker Hwang Byung Guk makes a memorable directorial debut with his film Wedding Campaign, a winning tale of two unmarried men looking for a little female companionship. In a desperate attempt to get married, the two bachelors sign up for a trip that takes them all the way to Uzbekistan in search of ethnic Korean brides! The film centers on Hong Man Taek (Jung Jae Young, from Welcome to Dongmakgol, Guns & Talks, and Someone Special), a farmer pushing forty who still remains wifeless, much to his own chagrin and that of his mother (Kim Ji Yeong, Arahan). Realizing that their little hamlet offers little chance for matrimonial bliss, Man Taek's grandpa (Kim Seong Gyeom) suggests that the two men try their luck with a company that helps Korean men arrange marriages with Uzbek-Korean women.
Man Taek's best friend Hee Chul (Yu Jun Sang, Tell Me Something) is also on the lookout for love, so he encourages Man Taek to pool their resources and take the trip together. However, things don't go quite as smoothly as they had hoped when the two single men arrive in Uzbekistan. The main problem for Man Taek to overcome is his eternal shyness. Thankfully, he's got some help from his translator, Kim Lara (Soo Ae, A Family), who has the unenviable task of turning Man Taek into an acceptable husband in the eyes of these Uzbek-Korean girls! But will she succeed in her mission? Or will Man Taek remain a bachelor for life? Also starring Kim Sang Gyeom, Kim Ji Young, Kwon Tae Won (Blood Rain), Evangenia Park, and Vera Popok, Wedding Campaign is a funny, sentimental take on finding love in the unlikeliest of places!
