Director Kim Jee Woon (Three) draws on a classic Korean folk tale about a pair of sisters ill-treated by their stepmother to explore the skeletons in the closet of a dysfunctional bourgeois family.

Sisters Su-mi and Su-yeon return home after recovering from an illness, but find they are fearful of their stepmother Eun-joo. Su-yeon feels a presence in her room and Su-mi sees a ghost of her late mother, who hung herself in Su-yeon's closet. The strangeness continues when the stepmother's birds are poisoned to death. Assuming Su-yeon is behind the incidents, Eun-joo locks her in the closet. One day, the sisters’ father, Mu-hyun, leaves for town and Su-mi can’t find Su-yeon, but spots Eun-joo dragging a big bag along a dark corridor, leaving bloody stains behind her. Su-mi follows the trail of blood and confronts Eun-joo. They start fighting and Su-mi is felled. A while later, Mu-hyun returns…
